Advancing the Academic Expression of Mandela

May 25, 2022 | 10:00 am EST

KBFUS, in close collaboration with The International Social Impact Institute® and in partnership with Nelson Mandela University, Candid, GivingTuesday and Myriad cordially invite you to our Africa Day 2022 Celebration to learn about the academic expression of Mandela – Nelson Mandela University – a dynamic, engaged and transformative African university rooted in the values of Ubuntu and service of society. Providing education for a sustainable, socially just world, the South Africa-based university is locally responsive, nationally active, regionally alive, and globally aware.

During this highly interactive virtual fireside chat hosted by Kady Sylla, Senior Advisor – Africa at KBFUS, and moderated by Elizabeth Ngonzi, Founder and CEO of The International Social Impact Institute®, you will meet and hear from the University’s visionary Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Sibongile Muthwa.

You will learn about the global ecosystem the University is co-creating in partnership with both the public and private sectors, with local nonprofits and civil society organizations and academic institutions, with its alumni, faculty and students, and with individuals like you, to develop African-purposed solutions to major challenges such as unemployment, poverty and inequality – all in the spirit of Nelson Mandela’s ethos of love for humanity and his lifelong commitment to social justice.

You will also learn about the University’s quest to expand human understanding and to redefine what it is that a university stands for; about its mission to cultivate humanity as it pushes forward the frontiers of knowledge; and about how the University is contributing to the well-being of its city, its province, its nation, the African continent and our world, through its pursuit of a more equal and socially just world.  You can also expect to hear some of the Vice-Chancellor’s inspiring story of her journey from a rural upbringing in South Africa and the lessons she learnt from her family in her dedication to equality of educational opportunity.
